Finding Information

There are three ways to find a HealthSheet in Krames On-Demand 3.0:

  1. Look in the Notebook and Category that applies to your topic
  2. Scan the HealthSheets A - Z list, or
  3. Search the HealthSheet Card Catalog

Each of these methods is described below.

About Notebooks and Categories

The HealthSheets are organized into 31 Notebooks to help you find a specific title. Most of the Notebooks are specific to a medical specialty (Cardiology, Urology, General Surgery). Some Notebooks are devoted to a specific disease state (Diabetes, Stroke), and others represent convenient groupings of information (Pre-Op/Post-Op, Postnatal Care, Mental Health). Since some HealthSheets apply to more than one Notebook topic, they will appear in multiple Notebooks. Within a Notebook, information is organized into five categories: General Information, Diagnostics, Treatments, Self-Care, and Prevention/Lifestyle.

  • The General Information section includes information about diseases, conditions, and related concepts. In the Cardiology Notebook, for example, the General Information section contains titles such as What is Cardiomyopathy?, Causes of Syncope, Understanding Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Risk Factors of Heart Disease, and What is High Cholesterol?

  • The Diagnostics category contains information about diagnostic procedures specific to the Notebook topic as well as HealthSheets that cover what a patient can expect before, during, and after a diagnostic test. In the Diagnostics section of the Orthopaedics Notebook, for example, you will find Evaluating Kneecap (Patella) Problems, What is a Discogram?, Discogram: During the Test, and Discogram: After the Test.

  • Similarly, Treatments contains HealthSheets that explain what a treatment is and why it is used, such as Medication for Cholesterol Control and Carotid Artery Problems: Surgery for TIAs in the Circulatory Notebook. The Treatments section also contains before, during, and after information such as Before Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery and After Carotid Artery Surgery: In the Hospital.

  • The Self-Care category has information to help patients who have a disease or condition care for themselves, such as How to Test Your Blood Sugar and Diabetes: Inspecting Your Feet in the Diabetes Notebook. Other examples include Incision Care: Abdomen and Ostomy Care: Changing Your Pouch from the Gastroenterology Notebook.

  • The Prevention/Lifestyle category provides information about diet, exercise, and wellness and prevention specific to the topic of a Notebook. For example, in the Urology Notebook, Preventing Kidney Stones and Testicular Self-Exam (TSE) are found in the Prevention/Lifestyle Category. Eating Heart-Healthy Food and Aerobic Exercise for a Healthy Heart are examples from the Cardiology Notebook.

Using Notebooks and Categories

Click on the Notebooks tab located just below the Krames On-Demand logo. Select a Notebook from the drop-down menu at the top of the left-hand navigation bar. When you select a Notebook from the menu, a list of all the HealthSheets in that Notebook will appear in the left-hand window. These HealthSheets are organized into the five subcategories described above. Scroll down the list to see the titles contained in each category. To see the contents of another Notebook, simply make another choice from the drop-down menu.

To view a HealthSheet in English, click on the orange box next to the title you want to see. To view the Spanish version of that sheet, click on the purple box.

About HealthSheets A-Z

In addition to the Notebook groupings, the HealthSheets are also organized in alphabetical order. In the alphabetical listings, the titles are presented in inverted format so titles having important words in common are listed together. For example, if you look in the "A" list, you will see four acne titles grouped together, followed by 12 addiction titles, and seven ADHD titles.

Using HealthSheets A-Z

Click on the HealthSheets A-Z tab located just below the Krames On-Demand logo. Click on a letter in the alphabet menu at the top of the left-hand navigation bar.

When you select a letter, a list of all the HealthSheets whose titles begin with that letter will appear in the left-hand window. To go to a different letter in the alphabet, simply click on another letter in the menu.

To view a HealthSheet in English, click on the orange box next to the title you want to see. To view the Spanish version of that sheet, click on the purple box.

About the Card Catalog

The best way to locate all the HealthSheets that pertain to a particular topic is to use the searchable HealthSheet Card Catalog. Use this list to search the Krames On-Demand content all at once to find every HealthSheet that has a specific word or phrase in the title. Just as you would use a card catalog in a library, use this list to find where an item is located. Then go to the Notebook or place in the alphabet where the HealthSheet is located to view and print the information.

Using the Card Catalog

To use the Card Catalog, click on the "Find It" button at the top of the Krames On-Demand screen. To search for all the HealthSheets that have, for example, "addiction" in the title:

  • Click on the binoculars icon in the Acrobat toolbar.
  • Type in "addiction."
  • Click on the Find button to see the first title containing that word.
  • To find the rest of titles containing "addiction," click on the Find Again button (small binoculars with arrow) multiple times until a message appears saying you have searched to the end of the document.

If, in this example, you want to see the HealthSheet Addiction, Recovering: Continuing with Counseling, you could find it either under the letter "A" in the HealthSheets A-Z list or in the Self-Care Category in the Mental Health Notebook. Many titles appear in more than one Notebook; for ease of use, the Card Catalog lists only one Notebook for each HealthSheet.

Note: If the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar on your computer does not show the binoculars icon, it is because you have a version of Adobe Acrobat Reader that does not support PDF searching. If you want to install the version that supports searching PDF files, contact your network administrator. (This version of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded from the Internet at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. Be sure to click on the box that says "Include option for searching PDF files and accessibility support" in Step 1 before downloading.)

Personalizing and Printing a HealthSheet

After you have called up a HealthSheet, use your mouse to click in the Name field. If you are not able to select the field, make sure the Hand tool located just above the HealthSheet is selected. Type in the patient's name. Use the Tab key to move to the Who to Call field. Type in the contact information. Continue to use the Tab key to move through the HealthSheet to locate any form fields that are editable and to arrive at the Notes box, where you can enter special instructions.

Some (but not all) HealthSheets contain form fields that you can change. For example, you can change "Call the doctor if your temperature goes above 100.5º" to "Call the doctor if your temperature goes above 101.5º." These fields are underlined for easy identification. You can navigate to these form fields by using the Tab key to move from the Name field to the Who to Call field, to each of the form fields, and finally to the Notes box. If you want a better view of a form field you want to change, use the percentage box at the bottom of the HealthSheet window to zoom in and out on the page. (See "Using the Adobe Acrobat Toolbar" for more information.)

For each form field on the Spanish HealthSheets, the English translation of the surrounding phrase is shown in green type. This green type is visible only on the screen. It does not appear on the printed sheet. You can use the percentage box at the bottom of the HealthSheet window to zoom in on the English translation so it is easier to read.

After you have personalized the data fields and entered your notes, use the scroll bar at the right of the HealthSheet to go back to the top of the sheet. Click on the purple Print button at the top left of the sheet. (The Hand tool must be selected.) Then click OK to print. If the text elements are missing when you print a HealthSheet, make sure "Print as image" is checked in the print dialog box.

Documenting an Education Session

Click on the "Documentation" button located at the top of the Krames On-Demand screen. A blank documentation sheet will be displayed in the main window. You can enter the patient's name, ID number, and other information at the top of the sheet. You can also type the other information directly into the form fields provided in the sheet. Use the tab key to move from field to field. Print the documentation sheet as you would a HealthSheet.

About the Adobe Acrobat Toolbar

When you call up a HealthSheet, a toolbar appears at the top of the HealthSheet window. This is the Adobe Acrobat toolbar. You can move the cursor slowly along the toolbar (do not click) to see the names of the tools. The following instructions apply to the tools that are helpful when using Krames On-Demand.

  • The Hand tool must be selected to type in patient data or customize the data fields. You can also use the Hand tool to reposition the HealthSheet in the window. With the Hand tool selected, click and hold down the mouse button. You will see the cursor change from a hand to a fist. With the mouse button still depressed, move the mouse away from you. The HealthSheet will move upward to reveal more of the sheet below. To move back to the top of the HealthSheet, hold down the mouse button and move the mouse toward you.

  • The Acrobat toolbar includes a Print tool, but for best results use the purple Print button on the HealthSheet for printing in Krames On-Demand.

  • The Zoom In tool (magnifying glass) allows you to enlarge the magnification of the HealthSheet (the type will be larger but less of the sheet will be visible). To reduce the magnification, hold down the Control key while you click with the Zoom tool. You must select the Hand tool before you can type new information into any of the data fields or use the purple Print button. The percentage box at the bottom of the screen can also be used to zoom in and out on the page without having to reselect the Hand tool.

  • The Find tool allows you to search for a word or text string in the body of a HealthSheet or the Print Titles list. You can click on the Find Again tool to find another instance of the same string without reentering it into the Find text box.
